A Chinese MMORPG Goes Handheld With the Help of TestBird – Case Study

Zeus Interactive is a well known MMORPG developer in China with multiple online games and mobile games.  The company started in 2010 and is now entering China’s newly growing MMORPG market for Android and iOS.

The Problem

Zeus Interactive’s MMORPG “Cāngqióng biàn” is a power-heavy mobile game with 1080p graphics on a 3D-engine. The fear was making a game so large would create enormous issues for game players on the many phones in China and harm the reputation of Sheng Ming Cheng due to it being a licensed game on popular Chinese IP.

The Solution

TestBird worked simultaneously with Cāngqióng biàn to help in adjusting the performance of many low-end and mid-end phones, allowing for better compatibility among the hundreds of phones available in China. Due to the requirement that MMORPGs have on CPUs, we worked with them to find specific bugs that would drop CPU speeds and create slowdowns and stuttering of gameplay.

The Result

During the Open Beta in May 2015, Cāngqióng biàn was able to have a one day retention rate of over 69% and a three-day retention rate of 46%.
